A Weekend in Berlin

Updated: Jul 16, 2020

This past weekend we ventured up to Berlin, Germany. We celebrated my Husband's promotion at work, and spent some much needed time together without work, technology or everyday tasks interrupting our time. We took our sweet dog, Jordy, with us. It's always fun to see how he does in each place we travel. I am so thankful for how dog-friendly Europe is as a whole. Germany specifically has been very dog-friendly no matter where we go!

We spent time exploring the history in the city and spent lots of time at the East Side Gallery. It consists of a series of murals painted directly on a 1,316 m (4,318 ft) long remnant of the Berlin Wall. The gallery has official status as a Denkmal, or heritage-protected landmark. According to theK ünstlerinitiative East Side Gallery e.V., an association of the artists involved in the project, "The East Side Gallery is understood as a monument to the fall of the Berlin Wall and the peaceful negotiation of borders and conventions between societies and people", and has more than three million visitors per year.

It was so interesting to see all of the different styles of art, the message the Artist is portraying and how each person used the wall differently. Exploring each piece of art was one of my favorite parts of the trip.

We also explored a store called Modulor. It is a crafters DREAM! Considering I can't just pop on over to Michael's, Jo-ann's, or Hobby Lobby, spending some time in this craft store was a dream come true. They had so many fun papers, pens, craft supplies, high quality brands and more! If you are ever in Berlin, I highly recommend making a stop in this three story (maybe 4, I can't remember) craft dreamland! Of course, we also had to stop by Ritter Sport for some afternoon chocolate. We didn't make any on this trip, but we did grab some to enjoy with wine in the evening and some more to bring home! I loved their use of color throughout the building. And the giant hanging chocolate wrapper art piece was so cool!
